Relative Size

For some reason or another (probably because my mind is permanently in the gutter) I thought of something other than intended when I wrote that title.
Anyways, the purpose of this entry is to contrast places of relevance to my upcoming bouken (adventure).
All numbers are rounded up or down, as I saw fit. Some pages gave me city populations including surrounding areas, but the numbers I used do not include surrounding areas. Probably some of them are wrong.

Population of Japan: 128,000,000
Population of USA: 297,000,000
Population of Michigan: 10,080,000
Population of Fukushima Prefecture: 2,119,000
" " Michigan's largest city (Detroit): 951,000
" " Fukushima's largest cities: 350,000
(the capital is Fukushima City and is only 290,000)
" " Farmington Hills (current residence): 82,000
" " Troy (my hometown): 81,500
" " Furudono-machi (my post): 6,500

" " Tokyo: 2,800,000 (yeah, the CITY has a larger population than my prefecture)
" " New York: 8,000,000 (approaching the population of Michigan, no?)
" " Chicago: 2,900,000 (yeah, I guess Chicago feels more like Tokyo than other cities I've been to)
" " London: 7,170,000

Current distance from NYC (from Farmington Hills):626 miles
Travel time by car: 9 hours, 38 minutes
Cost: about $50
Plane: about $150, taking about 90 minutes, but this is round-trip and the drive/trains are not

Current distance from Chicago: 271 miles
Travel time by car: 4 hours, 20 minutes
Cost: about $25
Plane: about $123, taking about 70 minutes

Furudono-machi's travel time to Tokyo: 60 to 90 minutes by Shinkansen (I think it would be safe to add another 20-40 minutes on to that, depending on my exact location). It looks like I'd take the Yamagata line.

Shinkansen ticket cost for this ride (according to their English site; perhaps it is more expensive to buy in Japan... it often works that way): 8,700 JPY (but I probably have to take a bus/local train to Furudono-machi, and that's probably another 1,000 JPY).
This link is for me or those who will visit me: http://www.jreast.co.jp/e/index.html

I will include more information on my placement location in future entries :D Oh, the trivia!
